Headmistress Press

Headmistress Press was founded in 2013 by Mary Meriam and Risa Denenberg. The singular mission of our press is to promote and market lesbian-identified* poetry by publishing books of poetry by LBT poets. Headmistress Press sponsors Lavender Review, the premier e-zine dedicated to poetry and art by, about, and for lesbians; holds an annual Charlotte Mew Chapbook Contest; and produces our unique Lesbian Poet Trading Cards. Our books are available internationally at Amazon, and in countless other online venues, including Barnes & Noble and IndieBooks. Bookstores and teachers can purchase our books through Ingram, NACSCORP, and others. Or shop at our Headmistress Store.

*Our definition of “lesbian” includes both women who identify as lesbians and people who identify with lesbians. We recognize that lesbian communities have been and continue to be informed by bi women, trans women, Two Spirit, genderqueer, gender-noncomforming, and non-binary people, and that many of these labels are not mutually exclusive categories. In that spirit, we welcome submissions from all poets who feel an intimate connection with the term “lesbian.”
